Kelly Jones

2018 QEST Alborada Trust Scholar - Bridlework
West Sussex

In the four years that Kelly has been working with leather she has completed her City & Guilds Level 2 and 3 Bridle, and Level 2 and 3 Harness. She is also a member of the Society of Master Saddlers as a Qualified Harness maker.  Kelly produces bridles and a range of small leather goods from her business, KellyJ Leather.

Standard saddlery training does not cover Kelly’s major interest – specialist, modern bridles, particularly for the different demands of eventing – but Master Saddler Issi Russell, impressed by her perfectionism and potential, has offered 10 weeks of training. This will build on Kelly’s traditional knowledge and cover measurement, pattern making and stitching for a range of bridle styles.

Seven years ago, I saw the exquisite bridle worn by Olympic champion Valegro. My dream was to able to make something so beautiful. QEST is supporting me to be taught by Issi Russell, the lady that made that bridle. Any day now, my dream will come true.
