Lucie Mascord

2013 QEST J Paul Getty Jr Charitable Trust Scholar - Natural History Conservation
Lancashire

Lucie is an accredited conservator of natural history objects and human remains. There is no fixed educational route into this specialism, so following an Icon (Institute of Conservation) internship, Lucie pursued a QEST Scholarship to advance her knowledge and gain the necessary experience.

The scholarship provided a unique experience to train alongside James Dickinson, one of the last experts in the field. Lucie went onto succeed James when he retired in 2014.

Lucie achieved professional accredited status (ACR) in 2016. She is a trustee of the Institute of Conservation (Icon) and the Natural Sciences Collections Association (NatSCA). Lucie founded the NatSCA conservation working group, and set up the first NatSCA conservation conference in 2018. Her work has been published in a number of journals and presented at conferences across the world.

Unrelentless determination, education and networking are vital in succeeding in an unusual profession.
