Matthew Jacques

2016 QEST Benefact Trust Apprentice - Architectural Leatherwork
London

Matthew studied at the Chelsea College of Art and Design before working as a freelance carpenter. It was when he found work with Bill Amberg Studio that he realised he could combine his passion for both design and making.

Bill Amberg’s workshop specialises in architectural leatherwork, creating walls, floor panels and other interiors from the material. With QEST Benefact Trust funding, they were able to employ Matthew on a full-time basis and give him comprehensive training in architectural leather-work, using techniques of many types of leatherwork (from saddlery to book binding).  Since completing his apprenticeship, Matthew is continuing to work for the company.
