Patrick is a furniture maker and founder of Legards Furniture. While chairs are his main passion, Patrick also makes tables and other work, all defined by a contemporary style and distinctive details that have become signatures of his practice. He aims to create collections that blur the line between craft and functional art, either exhibited in galleries or alongside other makers.
Patrick is increasingly interested in large scale turning and has a passion for hand carving. He has developed a series of sketches exploring how turned forms can be carved into sculptural elements. To support this, his QEST Emerging Maker Grant will fund training with Mick Hanbury in Lincolnshire. The bespoke package will provide a foundation of techniques and will cover tool sharpening, machine maintenance, spindle turning, bowl turning and hollow form turning.
This training will allow Patrick to incorporate ambitious turned elements into his furniture and support the next phase of his practice. After two years refining his style, Patrick is ready to produce his first collection and expand the creative scope of his work.
