Sophie is a jeweller and silversmith based in London. She creates tactile and kinetic jewellery objects inspired by industrial, horological and vintage paraphernalia and mechanisms. A QEST Scholarship enabled Sophie to spend time with QEST Scholar Rod Kelly in Shetland, where they covered techniques including raising, box-making, gold inlay, engraving, tool-making and large scale soldering.
Sophie came away from the scholarship feeling hugely inspired and with a new confidence in her making skills. She now produces limited edition collections and one off pieces in silver and gold, with an emphasis on handmade quality and unique design. In 2020 she launched Hide + Ore, an independent design business combining traditional leather and metalworking techniques with simple, functional design.
