Scott is a self-employed silversmith who makes pieces of handheld silverware, inspired by Scotland’s landscape and cultural heritage. Scott is passionate about preserving tradition whilst also propelling the craft of silversmithing forward.
He graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2021 and is based at the Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop in the Scottish borders. His work focuses on the connection between early Scottish craftspeople, repetitive mark making and traditional techniques.
As part of his Emerging Maker grant, Scott will receive one-on-one training with renowned silversmith Rod Kelly where he’ll learn advanced chasing techniques and steel tool making to create tableware merging tradition and contemporary design, exploring unique centrepiece designs and pushing artistic boundaries. His long-term vision is to create functional tableware through public and private commissions, collaborate with fellow contemporary silversmiths, exhibit in prestigious institutions and mentor young silversmiths to ensure his skills are passed on.
