Theresa is a printmaker and Lecturer in Fine Art (Printmaking) at Newcastle University, specialising in artists’ books, zines, and letterpress broadsides. Her QEST Scholarship will support training with master printer Graham Moss, founder of Incline Press, developing her skills in typesetting and using three traditional printing presses: Adana, Harrild, and Albion. This experience will help Theresa establish a more professional letterpress practice, refining her techniques and gaining a deeper understanding of managing these presses efficiently.
Theresa focuses on the social history of print and its cultural significance, frequently working with young people and marginalised groups to co-develop projects. By embedding the historical roots of letterpress into her workshops, she provides participants with a broader understanding of its relevance in contemporary cultural production.
Theresa is also interested in cross-disciplinary collaborations, exploring ways to combine letterpress with fields such as social science and geography. Through exhibitions, publications, and teaching, she aims to raise awareness of letterpress printing and its role in the modern age. Her scholarship will also enrich her teaching, passing on these skills to a new generation of printers.
