William Powell

2014 QEST Hedley Foundation Scholar - Shoemaking
North Yorkshire

With a background in gentlemen’s retail and an obsession with quality, William came to QEST with a clear ambition to become one of the finest shoemakers in the country, upholding the traditions and revered skills made so famous by the bespoke shoemakers of London.

After gaining valuable knowledge of men’s footwear working for Crockett & Jones on Jermyn Street, he started working 1 day a week helping in the workshop for John Lobb. Receiving the QEST Apprenticeship allowed him the rare opportunity to begin working full-time for Lobb’s, where he spent years learning skills from the industry’s most knowledgeable craftspeople.

After honing his skills as an apprentice he relocated back to his home county of North Yorkshire, where he continues to work from his own workshop for some of the most highly regarded bespoke shoemakers in the world.

Detail, quality and durability are the key ingredients possessed by anything worth spending time or money on.
