Imogen Woodings
Brian Mercer Charitable Trust
Summer | 2014

Based in Liverpool, Imogen fell in love with the craft of traditional upholstery whilst doing a class at night school. Voluntary redundancy in 2012 enabled her to fund the first stage of AMUSF formal upholstery training, for which she gained a distinction.

Since then she has established a fledgling small business: Bluebird Upholstery, as well as continuing to learn her craft under the guidance of a local, time served upholsterer.

The scholarship has enabled Imogen to undertake the AMUSF Advanced Certificate in Upholstery, Level 3. This qualification is recognised within the industry and is necessary in order for Imogen to progress in her career. It will provide experience of working on large and complex pieces.

Imogen is looking forward to continuing to grow her business, setting up her own workshop, and making use of her stockpile of vintage fabrics to create high quality and unique upholstered pieces for sale .
