Stephen Lewis

1998 QEST Fenland Laundries Ltd Scholar - Stained Glass Conservation
Wiltshire

Steve originally graduated from Swansea Institute of Higher Education in 1996 with a BA (Hons) Degree in Architectural Stained Glass. In 1998, while training as a stained glass conservator at Lincoln Cathedral, he received a QEST Scholarship to gain work experience at Cologne and Salisbury Cathedrals stained glass departments; as well as conservation science, ethics and ironwork conservation courses at the University of York.

Since receiving the award Steve has helped conserve many prestigious stained glass collections including the medieval Dean’s Eye Rose window at Lincoln, as well as glass at the Sir John Soane’s Museum, and Exeter Cathedral. Steve currently works from his own studio in Wiltshire as a stained glass conservator and artist making new work.

The QEST Scholarship has enabled Steve to gain excellence within his craft and has provided him with valuable support to promote his craft skills.

For me, glass captures the fragile yet magical properties of light and colour that has the potential to transform a space.
