Trevor Cain
Dolls' House Conservation and Restoration
Summer | 2010

A well-respected restorer in his field, Trevor undertook an MA in Decorative Surface Restoration at the London Metropolitan University with the aid of the QEST Scholarship.

The scholarship has enabled Trevor to gain the confidence to setup and build his own workshop and also to look at ways to get others in to craft. He has just enrolled to start a year’s teacher training to be a Design and Technology Teacher (previously Craft, Design and Technology)

The highlights so far have been the exhibit at Fortnum and Masons and to be involved in the Coronation Festival, with a restored dolls house based on Princess Elizabeth play house in Windsor Great Park.He is currently constructing a dolls house based on Craigievar Castle, Scotland. The dolls house stands at over 6ft high and includes a great hall with its cantilevered ceiling.

Trevor also works, voluntary, for Southend-on-Sea council museum and had recently been assisting in rehanging its artwork in its new gallery. Trevor is looking forward to becoming a teacher and hopes to set up a regular workshop for QEST scholars to visit his school, to show pupils the variations in craft.
