Catherine is a predominantly self-taught fine bookbinder who runs her own business, Catherine Rose Books. She creates fine leather bindings using techniques including hand-dyed leather inlays and onlays, leather joints and doublures, silk sewn endbands and more.
A QEST Scholarship enabled her to build on her existing fine binding skills and learn more advanced techniques. She took fine binding courses with the two best UK bookbinding teachers – Kathy Abbott and Glenn Malkin – and five shorter masterclasses with other bookbinders to focus on contemporary leather techniques and finishing, design binding, edge gilding and tool maintenance.
