David is a young dry stone walling craftsman based in North Yorkshire, eager to make his mark on the industry.
Under the guidance of master craftsman Philip Dolphin through an existing apprenticeship, David is growing his skills in building different shaped dry stone walls which are intrinsic to the British countryside.  QEST funding will allow David to grow his skill set, enabling him to learn from three walling masters through one-to-one training, including with Philip who David has been working for since 2022.
David’s aim is to gain his Master Craftsman certificate in the next two to three years. Ultimately, he wants to set up his own business and become a Dry Stone Walling Association (DSWA) instructor to inspire other young people to continue the craft.
He is determined to promote the craft and become the UK’s youngest DSWA Certified Master Craftsman.
