Esme Ripley

2024 QEST Apprentice - Ceramics
Wiltshire

Esme is a ceramicist who specialises in colourful, functional tableware. Originally from North Yorkshire, Esme often looks towards interior design as a source of inspiration for her work.

She is determined to grow her skillset and become a confident potter, with the goal of opening her own pottery business within the next two years. QEST funding will enable Esme to continue to work for Charlotte Manser Ceramics, increasing her working days from three days to five.

A QEST Apprenticeship will allow Esme to improve her wheel throwing technique and kiln operation skills as well as developing her knowledge of registering a business, postage and packaging, social media and managing an online shop.

In the future, Esme would love to pass her skills on to other young ceramicists and make it a more accessible craft for the wider community.

Ceramics is important to me because it offers a challenge, both mental and physical. It can invoke an outlook that is so valuable to a person’s life, and through the ups and downs of the process I have learned to appreciate the delicacy of the materials.
