Hannah is a woodworker who is passionate about connecting with wood as a material, combining their time working in the woodlands with making.
After volunteering as a ranger in Dartmoor, Hannah became hooked on working with wood, beginning a joinery apprenticeship in the heart of the national park. Hannah joined Woodlab in 2022 assisting in commissions, teaching and making cabinets and various interiors. Using wood the forest can afford to spare, Woodlab design and make eco-interiors, including furniture, using timber from the South West.Â
A QEST Apprenticeship will allow Hannah to continue their working relationship with Woodlab manager Kester Hoefkens. Hannah’s training will give them the skills to work more independently as a maker, learning techniques such as steam-bending, wood turning, veneering, coppicing and lamination. They hope to make pieces that enhance the natural movement of wood.
Hannah’s goal is to independently design and make their own pieces at Woodlab by 2025. They also aspire to run workshops and introduce others to the craft who otherwise would not have the opportunity.
