Victor is a rising violin maker and folk musician who has a strong desire to create bespoke instruments. A QEST Apprenticeship will allow Victor to continue his established working relationship with award-winning master musical instrument maker Jonathan Hill in Edinburgh.
Jonathan is a renowned historical instrument maker who services musicians world-wide. He is also a leading maker of the Viola d’amore – a non-standardised instrument Victor is focused on mastering through his training. Victor’s two-year apprenticeship will see him learn all the techniques needed to make forms of the violin family including creating paper designs, turning pegs, designing bridges, marquetry, gilding and carving.
Victor aspires to be a professional musical instrument maker and strives to work in partnership with Jonathan one day, so he is also eager to learn business and customer service skills through his training. He also has goals to teach other young makers and publish a book on instrument making.
