Jay is a self-taught furniture maker from London who is on a journey towards integrating handmade metal adornments into furniture.
He built sets for TV and film for six years before embarking on cabinet and furniture making two years ago, starting up his own studio. Jay is keen to finesse his woodworking skills and elevate his metalwork skills, transforming his pieces into truly unique creations.
A QEST Emerging Maker Grant will allow him to undergo comprehensive training in woodturning at Birds & Branch Turnery in Hastings and metal polishing with The Bespoke Jewellery Training Company in Birmingham. Jay will learn woodturning to better develop his designs and broaden his repertoire of tooling, as well as polishing techniques to improve his finishes on bespoke castings.
In the future, Jay would like to expand his workshop and creative practices and serve as a representative of craftmanship within the Black community. He hopes to be able to provide opportunities to marginalised communities who may not have access to creative industries.
