John Sutcliffe

2017 QEST Kirby Laing Foundation Scholar - Stonemasonry & Sculpture
A freelance stonemason & carver, John’s interest in sculpting and stone masonry began 15 years ago when he grained as a stonemason at Building Crafts College, London.  He has subsequently worked on St. Pancras Chambers, Gloucester Cathedral and York Minster and is currently working on the restoration of Big Ben.  He went on to complete a postgraduate diploma in Historic Stone Carving at City & Guilds of London Art School.  His QEST Scholarship funded his studies in marble work in Carrara, Italy.

I believe that in essence I am craftsman and that my interest and enthusiasm for stonemasonry and our built heritage only deepens with time. My goal is to continue building my craft skills to the highest level.
