Laura winstone is an award winning illustrator and artist specialising in children’s books and collage art. In recent years, she has been awarded second place in the prestigious Macmillan Illustration Prize, highly commended in the V&A Illustration Awards and shortlisted for the Shanghai Golden Pinwheel Awards.  Her first illustrated book, ‘The Unofficial Guide to The Ancient Egyptian Afterlife’ was published with Cicada in 2022. Laura is currently working on her second and third books, and her clients include Cicada, Welbeck Publishing, Frankie Magazine, Fortnum & Mason, Prospect Books and The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts.Â

Laura’s QEST funding supported her during her MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University. She enjoys using colour, shape and pattern to evoke an emotional response or as a vessel to learn. She uses stained papers which she intricately cuts to create her collages, and alongside illustrating, she works as an art and textiles teacher.
