Sophie Burrows

2018 QEST Bendicks (Mayfair) Ltd Scholar - Children's Book Illustration
London

Sophie is an author, illustrator and comics creator based in London, UK. She makes books and illustrations that explore relationships, connections and human behaviour. Her images and stories are rooted in observation, where she draws inspiration from the everyday, mixes it with the surreal and often weaves humour into her work.

Sophie gained a BA in Illustration at UWE and worked as an illustrator for several years before embarking on the MA Children’s Book Illustration course at Cambridge School of Art. A QEST Scholarship enabled her to complete the final year of her Master’s programme, embrace printmaking, and exhibit her work to publishers at the Bologna Book Fair in Italy.

During her studies, Sophie received a number of awards, including the prestigious V&A Illustration Awards- Student Illustrator of the Year. Her debut author/illustrator title, Ig Pig and Og Frog will be out in April 2020.

I love to create work that can tell us something about ourselves, or each other. It’s so rewarding when someone connects with my images, and sees themselves in my stories or relates to them in some way.
