Natalie Dean

2025 QEST Scholar - Decorative & Mural Artistry, Scenic Artist
London

Natalie Dean is a London-based scenic artist and specialist decorator working across theatre, film, and interior design. With QEST support, she will train at the prestigious Van Der Kelen Institute in Brussels, where she will study woodgraining, marbling, gilding, trompe-l’œil, and traditional decorative techniques rooted in restoration.

Natalie’s work blends historical understanding with creative expression. As a scenic artist, she creates painted environments that support storytelling on stage and screen. In her role as a specialist decorator, she collaborates with interior designers to enrich spaces through material, texture, and colour. Whether restoring historic buildings or transforming contemporary interiors, she brings artistry into everyday environments.

Her practice moves seamlessly between industries, driven by an interdisciplinary approach and a passion for collaboration. In 2024, she received a Sky Arts award for Best Production Design on a short film. Natalie believes traditional decorative arts play a vital role in preserving heritage and enriching public spaces. Following her training, she plans to share her skills with others in the industry and champion apprenticeships that protect endangered craft practices.

The QEST grant will be a career-changing opportunity, that will allow me expand my skill-set, and grow as an independent artist.
