Nicola is a ceramicist based in Brighton who makes functional tableware, inspired by North East Asia’s rich ceramic traditions. A mostly self-taught maker, Nicola held her first solo exhibition in Tokyo at Lucite Gallery in 2023. She is now focused on expanding her body of work and improving her throwing technique to be the best potter she can.
With the help of QEST funding, Nicola travelled to South Korea, where she spent 3 weeks in Icheon, South Korea in November/December 2024. Her residency taught her the Korean way of throwing clay off the hump and she is now starting to feel proficiency in this method of throwing. She has begun to incorporate this into her practice, allowing for finer and more skilled work to be produced.
Nicola hopes that after developing her skills further she will be able to pass on her knowledge to others. Her long-term goal is to create larger, more technical work and to show her pieces at notable galleries and exhibitions.
