Patrick Davison

2022 QEST Scholar - Goldsmithing & Silversmithing
Kent

Patrick is a gold and silversmith who studied at the Glasgow School of Art and Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence. His process-led practice involves constant experimentation – from discovering the effects of either soldering or fusing metals together to testing the elasticity of metal sheets prior to cutting.

QEST funding will support Patrick’s studying with Archivio Negroni in Milan, where he will focus on the techniques needed for struck medal production. He will learn the skills required to create medals and then use this coining process to enhance his current practice making jewellery and other small objects. As a gold and silversmith he uses many techniques in his practice, yet the resulting effect produced by coining is unique and he is excited to explore its potential and share his knowledge through workshops.

The impact that the process or method of forming has on metal has had a significant influence in my work. I enjoy assessing the aesthetic consequences that result from metal being formed and this has led me to study a range of techniques and search for new applications and outcomes for these processes.
