Rasha Obaid

2023 QEST Howdens Scholar - Sculpture
London

Rasha’s primary area of interest is figurative sculpture and the restoration of historic stone sculptures. She has a good foundation in carving and modelling from City & Guilds of London Art School, but is now seeking additional expertise in capturing the human form in clay and drawing by attending the Florence Academy of Art (FAA).

A QEST 2023 Scholarship will support Rasha during the year long sculpture programme at the FAA, where she will focus on anatomy, gesture, and the capturing of human form in clay and drawing. By supplementing her architectural stone carving foundation with specialized training in modelling the human form, Rasha believes that she will be well-positioned to build a career in figurative carving and restoration in stone when she returns to the UK.

Over the next five to ten years she also plans to work with recent immigrants, aiming to increase their awareness of and engagement with the UK’s abundant artistic and heritage resources.

I’m interested in the creation and restoration of art in public spaces that engages with the narratives and identities of the local communities and represents a sense of beauty and harmony.
