Sam Flintham

2014 QEST Garfield Weston Foundation Scholar - Stonecarving
Wiltshire

Sam is sculptor of the human figure who works in clay and stone. Through the use of traditional techniques of drawing, sculpting and carving he works from the live model to explore nature directly. Sam also teaches architectural stone carving techniques to students of all ages in Bath, UK.

Past works include various figurative and modern sculptures/designs for public and private spaces. Sam’s QEST Scholarship in 2014 allowed him to study architectural stone carving at the City & Guilds of London Art School. It was there that he learned the skills he required to further his career and he also worked as an assistant to his tutor, Nina Bilbey, on her statue of HM The Queen for Canterbury Cathedral. Sam recently unveiled a new monumental stone sculpture as a focal point for the Riverside community development in Bath.

My hope is that through my work I’m somehow able to move the viewer as I have been moved by others before me.
