Tara McArtney

2013 QEST Bendicks (Mayfair) Ltd Scholar - Textile Design & Making
Down

A QEST Bendicks Scholarship enabled Tara to study a part time Masters in Textiles at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham. Tara dyes and hand weaves all her own pieces, ensuring each is truly unique.  Her commissions to date, have included wall hangings, cushions, throws and scarves for both men and women. Her work has been featured in magazines and her 2013 collection was awarded the prestigious Sanderson Award at New Designers in London.

After receiving requests from knitting and crochet enthusiasts that wanted to make their own collectible pieces after seeing her beautiful woven collection at Tara Osborough Bespoke Textiles, Tara launched Irish Artisan Yarn, offering hand painted and dyed yarns in colours influenced by the wonderful Irish Landscapes where Tara grew up and where her family still live. The highly collectable yarn in Alpaca Silk or Merino is in short supply with every piece being unique – only 5 skeins of a colourway are produced at any one time.

I love the idea of using a yarn, that has not travelled for miles. For my collections, my aim is to create woven pieces that are not only functional but allow me to tell a story and raise awareness of some of the excellent natural and sustainable resources we have available locally. As a result, I endeavour to use British Wool in all my collections.
