Tiffany Barber is a Scottish artist based in Brighton, with a background in oil painting and a growing specialism in conservation. After completing a BA (Hons) in Painting at Edinburgh College of Art her practice has evolved to explore ambiguity, classical references, and contemporary issues through the painted image. A deep interest in materiality, technique and the legacy of historical artworks has led Tiffany to pursue a career in conservation.
With QEST’s support, she will undertake a three-year Master’s in Conservation of Easel Paintings at The Courtauld Institute of Art in London. In the first year, she will build a foundation in scientific methods, conservation theory, art history, and practical techniques such as replica-making and easel painting examination. The second year will focus on independent studio practice, research into painting materials and techniques, and preventative conservation. In her final year, she will carry out an extended conservation treatment and an in-depth research project, culminating in a dissertation. Through this rigorous training, Tiffany aims to preserve historical paintings with sensitivity and insight, and to help shape the future of the conservation profession.
