Tom Adams

2009 QEST Scholar - Orcharding
Shropshire

Tom established his one-acre fruit tree nursery in Oswestry, Shropshire in 2010 after a QEST Scholarship allowed him to learn from horticulturist Tony Gentil at his Cheshire orchard and nursery. During this time he learnt about propagating rootstock, budding and grafting, winter and summer pruning, pest and disease management, soil analysis, plant physiology, orchard surveys and fruit storage. His nursery grows apples, pears, plums, damsons, medlars, cherries and quince.

Tom works with the Marcher Apple Network and when they find a unique variety of apple they propagate it and save it from extinction. He also works with The Orchard Project, a national charity for the creation, restoration and celebration of community orchard.
