Jack Richardson

2021 QEST AHS Ltd Apprentice - Thatching
Worcestershire

Jack is an apprentice thatcher, who has been working for master thatcher, Joe Thornton, for almost two years. He has already joined the National Society of Master Thatchers, which provides both a framework for a formal apprenticeship training plan—that Joe has adopted and adapted for Jack—and gives him another thatcher mentor.

Jack has shown great enthusiasm for, and commitment to, the heritage craft of thatching, and although he has already developed substantially and acquired the fundamental skillset of a thatcher, he has further training to do before he can be a fully sustainable employee. A QEST Apprenticeship will ensure Jack can continue to work with Joe, and that Joe can afford to set some time aside to do additional training.  In five to ten years’ time Jack hopes to be a fully qualified master thatcher.

I take pride in my work and aim to produce some of the best quality thatched roofs in the country in the near future.
