In Summer 2023, Court Barn in Chipping Campden presented the work of eight talented makers from Gloucestershire and neighbouring counties who have benefited from QEST’s support. All are highly skilled in their fields – silversmithing, thatching, shoe making and more – and QEST funding has enabled them to expand their knowledge by working with master craftsmen and exploring new techniques which take their practice to the next level.

The Museum of Craft and Design holds an important collection of work by C R Ashbee and the Guild of Handicraft and celebrates fine craftsmanship and design in Chipping Campden and the north Cotswolds from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present day.

CEO of QEST, Deborah Pocock LVO, says “QEST is delighted to be collaborating with Court Barn on this prestigious exhibition, bringing together some of our hugely talented scholars from across the local area. We are proud to have supported so many makers, enabling them to take their craft skills to the next level, and we very much look forward to seeing the work of this group on show in Material Matters.”

Deborah opened the exhibition on Friday 19 May by chairing a discussion with Stratford Gallery owner Howard Clegg and exhibiting makers Max Bainbridge (wood turner) and Alice Walton (ceramicist).

Exhibitors: Max Bainbridge & Abigail Booth (Forest + Found), Mandy Coppes-Martin, Lilly Deeming, Susan Early, Jack Richardson, Alice Walton and Zoe Watts.
