Willow Bloomfield

2024 QEST Dalgleish Trust Emerging Maker - Metalwork, Vessel Raising & Sculpture
Bristol

Willow is a metalworker specialising in hammer forming and repoussé techniques, creating sculptures, vessels, and lighting. Willow combines a deep observation of nature with playful creativity, crafting organically forged pieces. With QEST funding, they will undertake three masterclasses with renowned silversmith and QEST Scholar Rauni Higson, focusing on vessel raising, hammer forming, and combining these skills to create flowing, organic forms.

Originally trained in fine furniture woodworking, Willow’s craft journey evolved after participating in the King’s Foundation and QEST’s collaborative initiative, Building Arts Programme, where they discovered a passion for metalwork. Since then, Willow has dedicated themselves to using recycled materials, primarily sourcing copper from discarded hot water tanks from scrap yards.

Willow is committed to sharing metalworking skills through public workshops in Bristol and online. Their goal is to fill the educational gap in the craft, while promoting diversity in the industry by organising accessible workshops for disadvantaged groups. Looking ahead, Willow plans to contribute to the cultural output of the UK by celebrating and helping to share the work of craftspeople.

I am inspired by the beauty of the organic world. I seek to express my curiosity with the form and shapes of nature, in beautiful unique sculptural objects.
