Zoe Garner

2024 QEST Scholar - Glass work
Tyne & Wear

Zoe is an experienced glass artist from the North East of England who started her career 25 years ago. She started specialising in flameworking 19 years ago and in that time has worked for organisations such as The National Glass Centre and the University of Sunderland.

The missing piece to Zoe’s skillset is her knowledge of lathe work. A QEST Scholarship will allow her to embark on one-to-one training on the glass lathe with soon-to-be-retired master craftsman Brian Jones MBE of Wearside Glass Sculptures.

Zoe will focus on cutting and joining, setting up the lathe, sealing objects inside vessels and large scale blown forms.

Zoe aims to use these newly acquired skills to take on larger scale projects and to pass on her knowledge to the next generation. Zoe will also become one of the very few artistic flame workers in the UK with lathe skills once she finishes her QEST training. Zoe is eager to ensure the craft is preserved, hoping to offer one-to-one lathe workshops which are not currently offered in the UK.
