Kate Pankhurst Scoops Embroidery Prizes

Congratulations to QEST D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust Scholar Kate Pankhurst who has been awarded first prize in the Hand & Lock Textile Art – Student 2021 category, as well as the Worshipful Company of Gold & Silver Wyre Drawers Award 2021, with her piece ‘Lockdown O Clock’.

Kate comments, “the piece explores our perception of the passage of time during the pandemic. In lockdown, time flies, yet is marked by the analogue slow phases of the moon and the growth of plants. For the first time, we have time to appreciate a dull cityscape and flocking pigeons as beautiful. The embroidered QR code links to YouTube, to a film I made as time progressed”
