Portraits of Queen Elizabeth II

Commissioned by Illustrated London News in 2015 to mark the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II becoming Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

At the age of 23 QEST Scholar Rupert Alexander was commissioned by the Royal Warrant Holders Association to paint HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and HRH The Prince of Wales, thus becoming the youngest artist since the 18th century to paint the British Royal Family. Twelve years later he returned to paint this portrait of the late Queen which garnered widespread press attention and critical acclaim.

The late Queen at Crafting Excellence, a summer exhibition of craft work by thirty-two QEST Scholars, displayed at Fortnum & Mason in 2012. The handmade works on display celebrated the quality and diversity of British craftsmanship. Here she is looking at leatherwork by Mia Sabel.
