Anna Robson

2019 QEST Garfield Weston Foundation Apprentice - Bee Farming
Northumberland

Funding from QEST will allow Anna to undertake further advanced training courses in bee farming, specifically undertaking instrumental insemination of queen bees. This advanced method of bee breeding is helping to breed stronger and better bees. In learning these skills Anna will be able to excel in the field of queen rearing, which will help to increase availability of queen bees to beekeepers and for use by Northumberland Honey Co. Queen bees are of paramount importance to the sector, as without queens there are no bee colonies.

Furthermore her QEST funding will allow Anna to undertake a placement on a bee farm in New Zealand during the third year of her apprenticeship, gaining vital experience in other commercial beekeeping operations.

I have a love of the outdoors being from a farming background. I heard of the apprenticeship on offer from Northumberland Honey Co and quickly read about, and became fascinated with, the bee farming industry. I look forward to being able to work with bees for a living!
