Ewan has been training with Jonathan Jackson of Parkinsons Master Thatchers Ltd since 2021, and QEST funding has supported the following three years of his thatching apprenticeship. Jonathan has been impressed with Ewan’s passion for the craft and his commitment to learning and developing his skills. After mastering the basic elements of thatching, they moved on to look at more complex types of ridging, repair work, necessary carpentry skills and business skills. Ewan hopes to become a master thatcher and continue working in, and helping to preserve, this heritage craft.
