Jacob is a talented hand-weaver and textile artist who trained at Central Saint Martins College and the Royal College of Art before setting up his studio in South East London. His work is inspired by the ancient ikat technique, in which patterns are created by binding and dyeing the warp yarns before weaving. Jacob uses a rich palette of colours, often drawn from nature, such as tropical plants and exotic birds, blending traditional ikat craftsmanship with a contemporary twist.
QEST funding will enable Jacob to pursue formal training in the Japanese kasuri technique at the Kawashima Textile School in Kyoto, Japan. This expertise will allow Jacob to create more intricate designs and collaborate with galleries, hotels, and interior designers. Jacob aims to become a practising lecturer, offering workshops and mentoring. He has expanded his business to include designing handmade rugs in Nepal, supporting traditional weaving communities. His work is focused on minimal waste, natural materials, and exploring environmentally friendly methods in his textile practice.
