Devon based sculptor and interior designer Jill started working with cob in 1996. In 2002 she was awarded a QEST Scholarship to travel to Mali to exchange ideas and techniques with local builders and study the vernacular architecture of West Africa.
Working in a partnership with Jackie Abey, as AbeySmallcombe, Jill has created a number of private and public commissions, both buildings and sculptures, including projects for The National Trust, The Eden Project and Sustrans. Together they were Artists in Residence at Exeter Museum and they developed a range of mud cloth textiles and wall hangings. The wall hangings were exhibited at The Devon Guild of Craftsmen and sold to private collectors. Jill also worked on a conservation project for the National Trust at Castle Drogo. She is now retired.
