2022 - Building Arts Programme
Lancashire

After studying and working as a consultant civil engineer on the restoration of bridges, Nicola felt that learning how to build with her own hands would make her a better engineer. She has spent the last few years learning traditional and round wood timber framing and other natural building techniques. With new appreciation for ancient building craft, she can see a need for the modern building design approach to adopt traditional skills.

Nicola displayed a talent for art and a love of crafting from a young age. She is enrolled on the Building Arts Programme 2022, run in collaboration with The Prince’s Foundation, and hopes this will provide a unique space for integrating this creativity with her construction background to help her to approach building design from a new perspective.

Her passion for environmental regeneration drives her to support land based projects aimed at increasing biodiversity whilst producing carbon negative construction materials. Her goal is to work with natural materials that are produced in harmony with our ecosystem.

I hope to work in a way that creates regenerative culture as well as places, valuing the historic environment we have, the new materials we use, all people involved and the relationships between these things.
