Oscar became a gilding apprentice at W. Thomas Restorations aged 17. After a few years of work and education, moving into a five-year woodcarving apprenticeship supplemented by part-time release to art school was a natural progression. Oscar aims to master the skills of both woodcarving and gilding to keep these traditions alive. There are very few master carvers left in the country, and this will improve his skills in the restoration of antiques and historic objects.

My specialty with master carver Ray Dudman and City & Guilds hasn’t been taught for many years. I hope to achieve a greater understanding of furniture and to gain new skills to help the company in the future.
