Owen Bush

2023 QEST Scholar - Patternwelding
Kent

Owen has been patternwelding for almost 30 years and is a renowned, leading UK bladesmith and teacher.

He owns his own business and primarily makes premium quality kitchen knives and swords. Owen runs knife making gatherings and demonstrations for other makers which have proven to be invaluable opportunities for the sharing of techniques. He has taught more than 6,000 students to make knives, axes and swords since opening his Bushfire Forge School of Bladesmithing in 2008.

QEST training will enable him to incorporate decorative techniques into his pieces to push his work to a new level.

He’ll train with a number of master blacksmiths over 14 months, including gem and stone carving with QEST Alumni Charlotte de Syllas, metal morphosis with Peter Johnsson and Betty Bennet in America, decorative carving with Petr Florianek in the Czech Republic and other programmes within the UK.  Owen’s goal is to make ornate pieces of the highest quality and pass his new knowledge onto his students and fellow practitioners to inspire them.

I love my craft of bladesmithing – it has been my companion and teacher for 30 years and is a strong part of who I am.
