Patrick undertook a full time apprenticeship in watchmaking at J E Allnutt & Son Ltd in Midhurst, under the supervision of Master, Geoff Allnutt, FBHI. QEST Garfield Weston Foundation Apprenticeship funding contributed towards his salary as well as assisting in the cost of setting up a bench.
Patrick’s training included practical bench experience as well as external courses at the British Horological Institute (BHI). The apprenticeship involved watch repairing and restoration, tool making exercises, theory and technical drawing examinations together with instruction and extensive use of all machinery and tools in the workshop. When Patrick completed the 3 year training in 2022 he became a Member of the British Horological Institute (MBHI). Having now completed his diploma in repair, restoration and conservation of watches he is now a Fellow of the British Horological Institute (FBHI). Patrick also won the bronze medal, which is the highest award a BHI student can achieve.
