After spending four years as an apprentice stonemason at Salisbury Cathedral, Sarah gained a William Morris Craft Fellowship from the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB), followed by an MA in Conservation Studies at the Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies (IoAAS) in York. She then spent five years as a self-employed stonemason, repairing and conserving historic buildings.
Sarah’s QEST Scholarship enabled her to spend six months in Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Egypt, studying the structural building techniques and design processes used for building and repairing arches, vaults, bridges and domes.
