Wayne is an award-winning lettercutter, lettering artist and typographer based in Hertfordshire. He was first introduced to lettercutting while studying typography at Reading University and his work is drawn and carved by hand in both stone and wood. A QEST Scholarship allowed him to complete his formal training with an apprenticeship under Pip Hall in Cumbria.
Wayne set up his own studio in 2012 following the end of his apprenticeship. His commissions to date have included the memorial to C S Lewis for Westminster Abbey and a public art project for the Maison de la Culture in Amiens, France. He also runs a workshop for the MA Type Design students at the University of Reading. In 2013 he was awarded the Gold Award in Specialist Media and Craft Maker of the Year in Craft & Design Magazine’s Selected awards. He is a trustee of the Manchester Craft & Design Centre and a Fabric Advisory Committee member for St Edmundsbury Cathedral in Suffolk.
