Live Online Auction | Tuesday 8 September from 2pm

Following the success of The Art of Welcoming exhibition at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, we are delighted that Lyon & Turnbull are generously hosting a unique online charity auction of selected works from the exhibition, with a percentage of proceeds donated to QEST.

Curated by Mayfair Design District in collaboration with QEST for Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, The Art of Welcoming: Contemporary Craft of the Future brings together exceptional works by twelve contemporary makers, all of whom are QEST Alumni.

The auction offers collectors the opportunity to acquire remarkable contemporary craft while directly supporting the makers behind the work and helping to secure the future of UK craft.

Installed throughout Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, The Art of Welcoming explores how craft, material and atmosphere shape our experience of space. Across ceramics, glass, wood, metalwork, stained glass, sculpture and paper, the works demonstrate the breadth and ambition of contemporary craft in the UK today.

The exhibition celebrates not only the finished pieces, but the people, processes and specialist skills behind them. Traditional techniques meet experimentation, ambitious forms and innovative approaches to materials, reflecting a craft sector that is continually evolving.

The auction provides an opportunity for these works to continue their journey beyond the exhibition, reaching new collections, spaces and audiences. A percentage of proceeds from the auction will support QEST’s work funding education, training and career development for Britain’s next generation of craftspeople.

Deborah Pocock, CEO of QEST, said:

“The extraordinary quality and ambition of the makers represented in this auction demonstrate the strength of contemporary craft in the UK today. We are hugely grateful to Lyon & Turnbull for enabling QEST Alumni to reach new audiences through this online auction. The proceeds generated will help us continue investing in the future of craft.”

Potential bidders are invited to experience the works as part of The Art of Welcoming exhibition at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, 22 Hanover Square, London, W1S 1JP, where they will remain on display until 8 September.

The auction will take place live online on Tuesday 8 September from 2pm, hosted by Lyon & Turnbull.

Lyon & Turnbull are generously waiving buyer’s premium and vendor’s commission for the auction, meaning no buyer’s premium will be added to successful bids.
