Kate makes traditional horse collars with a leather outer and straw filling. She started training as a 16 year old apprentice to master harness maker John McDonald, and the pair now work together from their premises in Somerset.
Kate, a member of the Society of Master Saddlers and winner of a Worshipful Company of Coachmakers & Coach Harness Makers award, teaches many practitioners from the UK and abroad to ensure the future of her skills.
Further afield, Kate has worked on World Horse Welfare projects to develop equipment for working horses in Lesotho, Romania and Cambodia and taught a community in Honduras to make a basic collar and harness from local materials.
