Simon is a bespoke furniture maker working primarily with wood. With a keen interest in learning from other practitioners in order to experiment and critique his craft Simon has also acquired skills in metal work, casting and ceramics. His work is driven by making, however involvement with community projects such as the annual summer school Test Unit in Glasgow have expanded his interest in the more abstract facets of the built environment. Through engagement in urban design, critical discussion and physical prototyping he has gained an appreciation for the political, legal and economic structures which shape the world around us. These explorations have enabled Simon to better how these structures and relationships are a precursor to interesting and beautiful design, and vice versa.
Simon took part in the 2020 Building Arts Programme, run in collaboration with the Prince’s Foundation.
