Sofia is a designer and maker of wooden furniture and sculpture. Using a blend of traditional craft and contemporary techniques, she aims to create arresting pieces of work that will provoke a response.
Sofia gained a foundation diploma in Art & Design, before completing a BA in Interior Products Design. She later did specialist training at Williams & Cleal, on their Fine Furniture Making course, before working for Byron & Gomez as a maker alongside developing her own practice.
Sofia’s QEST Scholarship allowed her to return to Williams & Cleal for a bespoke programme of tuition over 20 weeks. She built upon her complementary skills such as sketching, CAD and design, with the main focus being on advanced carpentry skills such as steam bending and lamination. She created some speculative pieces of work, the main one being a three-legged lounge chair, which provided her with a foundation on which she continues to develop her practice.
