Tristram Bainbridge

2010 QEST Scholar - Furniture conservation
London

Tristram is a furniture and decorative arts conservator currently running a conservation practice together with his wife, Abigail Bainbridge, a book and paper conservator. In 2010 QEST funded his final year of study at West Dean College, which enabled him to gain a MA in Conservation. He works on a wide variety of wooden objects for private clients and public institutions, including English Heritage and The National Trust. Since working at the Victoria & Albert Museum, Tristram has specialised in Asian lacquer and uses Asian and Western techniques to conserve lacquer in his London-based studio.

After completing a degree in art history, and with a love of woodwork and craft skill, I found that the world of conservation – restoration was the perfect amalgamation of the practical and theoretical engagement with historic objects.
