Caitlin is a third-generation Northern Irish silversmith who is based in Reading. She graduated from the Glasgow School of Art with First Class Honours in silversmithing and jewellery in 2022. Caitlin has been fascinated by silver for most of her life. Her work predominantly consists of folding and weaving metal, challenging the barriers of traditional silversmithing.
Caitlin’s Emerging Maker grant funding will allow her to study her second-year post-graduate residential silversmithing and jewellery course at Bishopsland Educational Trust. A second year will see Caitlin focus on skill refinement, give her access to tutors and the opportunity to further explore niobium and anodizing techniques, pushing boundaries and introducing innovative work into the industry.
She also hopes her study will enable her to transition into gold, giving her a wider material range. Caitlin’s long-term goals are to grow her business, exhibit internationally, collaborate with traditional basket weavers, continue her relationship with leading UK fairs and teach others her skills.
